Support Nancy's Journey to Public Service

I am Nancy Mannion and have been a Registered Nurse for 47 years. During my decades of leadership and governance experience, I've always felt a strong pull towards making a difference in my work and my volunteer activities. That spark became a fire recently when I spoke at a local rally protesting federal budget cuts to healthcare and science. After this event, I was asked by community leaders to consider running for elected office, and I am considering that call this summer.

I've been invited to attend "Healing Politics," a candidate training program specifically designed for nurses who intend to run for public office. The program takes place July 24-27, 2025 at the Center for Politics at Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy. This program offers invaluable, hands-on, nonpartisan training specially designed for nurses who aspire to run for office and are traditionally underrepresented in public life. With your help, I'll have an opportunity to learn from the best and brightest nurse advocates in the country and master the technical skills required to run a successful political campaign.

As a nurse, I took an oath to protect the health, well-being, and humanity of each person and am duty-bound to be an advocate for the rights, health, and safety of others as well as to eliminate health inequities. I am morally and ethically obligated to intervene in the divisive political rhetoric, the undermining of our most trusted public institutions, and the dangerous budget cuts to science and healthcare funding. I cannot be silent. Thus, I want to use my voice, my knowledge and my experience as a nurse to gain a seat at the table where I can contribute to building a healthy nation.
