For decades, I have poured my heart into being a devoted mother and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at CUNY, mentoring countless students. I also volunteered for over four years as a teacher of English as a Second Language, championing those in need both in the US and abroad.
Today, after years of battling ovarian cancer with chemotherapy, the disease has tragically metastasized to my stomach, colon, lungs, and kidneys. The financial burden of this battle has been overwhelming. Recent gastric and kidney biopsies were not fully covered by Medicare, and I have been unable to earn an income for over two years. The strain forced me to leave my cherished and safe apartment in New Jersey for a less comfortable and less secure environment. Despite moving to a less expensive apartment, in the past couple of months, I have had to forego buying the nurturing foods my body needs to fight in order to pay my rent.
My medical team is currently working to stabilize my kidney function. If the next round of chemotherapy cannot stem the spread of the cancer, I may soon face a transition to hospice care. I am reaching out to my community of caring folks to support me in my time of greatest need.
All funds raised will go directly toward safe housing, medical expenses not absorbed by insurance, and providing a safety net for the mounting costs of ongoing treatment. I have spent my life being generous to others; now, I am asking for your generosity. Any contribution, no matter the size, will provide me with the dignity, comfort, and resources I need to continue this fight.
Sincere thanks!
Nancy
