Hi everyone, my name is Wendy Bergstrom and I’m writing on behalf of my dear friends Nancy and Richard McCollum. April 2, 2024 Richard unexpectedly passed away at home.

Richard is a longtime resident of the valley, having lived here since 1989. Richard worked for many years at the the Bug station, he worked with the Sierra County Sheriffs Department as a reserve deputy, he worked at Loyalton Elementary and High School as a maintenance man …. and he’s probably worked on just about everyone’s vehicle if any of you went to Tom to get your car fixed!

Richard was a dedicated husband and father of three. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his son Derek, Tyler, and his daughter Alyssa. Richard was a friend to many as well as a help to many in this community.

He was an active parent he coached soccer, up two teams at a time!! He chaperoned class field trips, end of year trips, which were overnighters! Always a willing soul!

I am hoping we can all help ease the financial burden during this time of mourning, as Nancy works part time and could really use our support to help bridge the gap and help cover the unexpected costs associated with loss of a loved one.
