Hi friends and family,
I’m Rhea Diokno, one of the many “apo” (tagalog for grandchildren) of the one-of-a-kind Leticia Doria. Those who know my Nanay can reiterate that she is a thoughtful and loving lady. She has a heart of gold; she loves her big family and has made several sacrifices to ensure that our family is safe, comfortable, and happy. My Nanay is absolutely wonderful in every aspect.
Recently, Nanay suffered from an ischemic stroke that suddenly converted to a hemorrhagic in a matter of days. She was transferred from one ICU to another in a different hospital in the Philippines in order to receive more specialized care. She has been in the hospital for about 21 days. This decline in her condition has impacted our family in more ways than one. It is heartbreaking to see my Nanay in this condition, especially as I am unable to be by her side in the Philippines. Moreover, being in this position has made me realize how contrast the healthcare system and expenses are in other countries. I am appalled to hear how payment is expected before treatment in both comfort measures and in life-saving ones too.
Nanay has fortunately been transferred from the ICU to a regular hospital unit. However, the road to recovery has just begun: physical therapy, new medications, mobility aids and various other rehabilitation costs. As our family navigates this challenging hurdle together, there continues to be financial burdens with medical expenses abroad and Nanay’s basic living costs. I created this GoFundMe to offer some relief so that our family can focus on Nanay’s healing. Your donations would greatly assist our family in covering the medical bills needed for a smooth recovery.
No contribution is too small, we appreciate you and God bless! Please keep our Nanay in your thoughts and prayers!
