Hi, my name is Halie, and I’m raising money for my grandparents, Ginny and David who raised me. On October 2nd, their home in Call, Texas, burned down in the middle of the night. They lost everything including their home, their belongings, their memories and we even lost two lives, my Nana’s sister Jennifer and her dog Yardley in the fire.
This has completely broken our hearts. My grandparents are two of the most selfless people I know. They’ve been married for over 40 years, and through everything, they’ve always put family first. They were taking care of my Nana’s sister after she had a stroke, which is why she was there that night. That’s just who they are, they always show up for the people they love.
Nana and Pawpaw built that house with their own hands. They didn’t have much, but they worked hard and made it their dream home. They did all the plumbing, wiring, painting, and flooring themselves. Every bit of that house had their love and sweat in it. They had only been living there for less than a year before it was gone.
Now they’re staying in a small trailer with my aunt, trying to figure out how to start over. They spent more than $200,000 on that home, not to mention everything inside and all of it is gone. Everyone in our family is still in shock. I even lost all my childhood things that were kept there, everything from when I was born to when I graduated high school. It feels like a lifetime of memories disappeared overnight.
My grandparents are the kind of people who make every holiday special. They never miss a birthday or family dinner. They’ve always been the ones to hold our family together, and now it’s our turn to hold them up.
In my family, when one person breaks, we all do. When the fire happened, everyone rushed to be there. Some drove hours just to make sure they weren’t alone. That’s what love looks like in our family, and it’s the kind of love my Nana and Pawpaw have given to us all their lives.
I just want to help take away some of their worries. They deserve peace, warmth, and a fresh start after everything they’ve lost. My goal is to raise as much as possible to help them rebuild and replace what was taken like furniture, clothes, and the little things that make a house feel like home again.
If you can donate, share, or even send a prayer, it would mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for showing kindness to my family.
