For anyone who knows Nam Pham, they know him as a brilliant and kind-hearted young man with a future as bright as his passion for computer science. A native San Diegan and a college student, Nam’s life was filled with the things he loved: gaming with friends, earning his place among Laufey’s top 0.01% of listeners, and (believe it or not) being a student. As he balanced his social life, his life was just beginning away from home when he transferred to UC Irvine.
In March 2024, that bright future began to dimmed. What started as a harmless stuffy nose turned into something far unexpected. After countless doctor visits and misdiagnoses, the final diagnosis was devastating: a rare and aggressive Stage 4 Nasal Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It’s an uncommon disease that many oncologists never encounter in their careers—let alone in a healthy 20-year-old.
The battle that followed has been nothing short of grueling. Compounded by a late start to treatment, insurance battles, and a cascade of health complications, within a week of his diagnosis, he went from a regular gym-goer to being wheelchair-bound. Nam had to pause his life as he underwent emergency ulcer surgeries and numerous infections that attacked his already weakened immune system. The physical toll has been immense, with increasing tumor-related pain in his legs that has stolen his mobility, requiring his family to provide constant, 24-hour care.
Through it all, Nam’s quiet strength and humility have been a source of inspiration. In the face of unimaginable pain, his primary concern has always been his family; always sorry that they have to witness his pain and aid in his daily living activities.
Despite the diagnosis and his difficult battle, Nam has been relentlessly pursuing his goals. Even from his hospital bed, exhausted and in pain, he dedicates time every day to studying computer science, keeping his skills sharp and his mind focused on the future he is fighting for. In a true testament to his character, he even recently took on the project of fixing a friend's broken computer, determined to help others and reclaim a piece of the life he is fighting so hard to get back to.
This is where we, his community, can make a difference. The weight of this fight is immense, and the financial burden of overwhelming medical bills and ongoing treatment is a heavy cross for his family to bear. Your support, whether through a monetary donation or by sharing his story, will do more than just help with expenses. It will give Nam and his family the breathing room to focus solely on his healing, along with seeking second opinions from different oncologist across different institutions. It will be a powerful message of hope, reminding him that he is not alone in this fight.
Let's rally around Nam and help him win this battle so he can get back to his life, his studies, and his dreams. Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your support.
