Support Nalu's Road to Recovery

On July 22, our son Kainalu “Nalu” Sunio was in a horrific car accident. He was a passenger in a vehicle traveling at over 85 miles per hour when it lost control and flipped 3–4 times before coming to a stop. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and Nalu was airlifted by Life Flight to the nearest trauma center.

He suffered a severely broken femur—his thigh bone was split in half—and underwent emergency surgery to insert rods and pins into his leg. He is currently still in the hospital, and his next step is intensive, inpatient physical therapy to help him walk again.

This accident has been a major life-changing event. Just before the crash, Nalu had started a new job and was taking meaningful steps toward building his future. Now, he faces months of recovery and the challenge of rebuilding his momentum.

His father and I immediately flew to the mainland to be by his side, and we’re staying with him as long as we can to support him through this. Nalu is incredibly strong and determined—he’s already focused on healing and continuing to pursue his dreams. This setback won’t stop him, but right now, he needs a little help.

We are asking for your support to help with the many unexpected costs related to his recovery—including transportation, physical therapy, and living expenses during this time. Every donation—no matter the size—brings Nalu closer to walking again and getting his life back on track.

We are so grateful he’s alive, and deeply thankful that the other passengers are also recovering. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers, and support.
