Last Monday, our dear friend Nakaya underwent major bypass surgery. She spent several difficult days in the ICU and, while we are deeply grateful she is now out of intensive care, her recovery will be long and challenging. Nakaya is still very weak and will need extensive medical and nursing care in the coming months—care that unfortunately is not fully covered by insurance.

Nakaya is a devoted teacher who has poured her heart into her students and her community. She is also a loving mother to her son, Oliver. This sudden medical crisis has created not only a serious health challenge but also an overwhelming financial burden that will affect her and her family for months to come.
