Help Save Nahla: A Second Chance for a Soulmate

A Story of Resilience, Love, and Hope

Meet Nahla — my 13-year-old Maltese-mix, my constant companion, my healing mirror, and my heartbeat. For over a decade, Nahla has been by my side through life’s highs and lows, offering comfort with every paw press and peace with every soulful gaze. Our adventures have traveled us cross country and back again. Hiking, biking, beach swims, paddle boarding and kayaks trips, winery’s, countless moves all over CT, Florida, Rhode Island and Florida again. There isn’t a place I’ve gone she hasn’t been directly alongside of me.

She is more than just a ‘pet’. She is a piece of me, my spiritual tether, and a living embodiment of unconditional love.

Now, Nahla needs our help.

A Sudden Diagnosis
About a year ago I noticed visible changes in Nahla begin to take place. Gradual weight loss, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue spells, generally less enthused, disinterested in our rituals and walks. These symptoms would subside and she would return to herself. Then they would surface again months later.
After routine check ups all appeared to be ‘fine’. The next spell happened right before Christmas. Labs were run with a generalized diagnosis- “acute kidney injury”
Still— never lending to any concrete answers. I began going down the rabbit hole. Literally— beginning and ending each day with reading, researching feeling like the medical community was failing me and I needed to take my own measures of holistic ritual alongside of traditional veterinary care to save my child. I began syringe feeding this little girl goats milk with a multitude of supplements, proviable, slippery elm, mushroom tinctures, buying only distilled water so as to aid in relief of her kidneys. Preparing every meal from scratch as an attempt to sustain her caloric intake providing extra protein and monitoring her every mood.
After multiple consults, research, reading, a wildly expensive echocardiogram procedure (that was nearly 1k alone) showed healthy heart, vitals— I began thinking— is this all in my head? I decided to take a breather.
A month ago, Nahla suddenly lost her appetite and energy once more. She began having accidents in front of me- even one in my bed- almost as to deliberately let me know— something’s not right. She became weak, unable to climb the stairs, unwilling to pick her head up and I knew something was deeply wrong. Multiple vet visits, bloodwork, and finally an abdominal ultrasound revealed a heartbreaking discovery:

A large, encapsulated tumor on her spleen.

This mass is suspected to be a splenic tumor, possibly hemangiosarcoma, a serious but often treatable condition — if caught before rupture. Nahla historically 7 pounds has been carrying the weight and size of a lemon just over 7cm long inside her tiny cavity for what I suspect to be a year.
Thankfully while in for biopsy yesterday the doctor was able to catch what was initially thought to be a tumor originating from her kidney was actually on her spleen. He said this is far too dangerous, vascular to biopsy. Fortunately, her tumor has not yet burst, bled, and there are no signs of spread to her liver or other organs. We did X-rays and scans to ensure her heart, lungs and cavity are otherwise free of malignancy, additional tumors. We still have time.
We go into surgery TOMORROW morning Wednesday, June 4.

The Hope: Surgery Can Save Her Life

Veterinary specialists have advised a splenectomy (spleen removal surgery) as soon as possible. This procedure could save Nahla’s life and bring her back to her joyful, radiant self. However, the surgery, hospitalization, follow-up care, and diagnostics come with a steep price —

I’ve poured everything into giving Nahla the best care — holistic support, vet visits, diagnostics, and nutritional healing. But this next step is beyond what I can afford alone.
I am prepared to go ‘all in’ and put all my chips on the table.
She is worth EVERYTHING to me.

️ Why Your Support Matters

I am humbly asking for help from my community — friends, family, kind strangers — anyone who has ever loved a ‘pet’ with the same kind of devotion a mother feels for its child.

Your donation will help cover:
• ✅ Emergency splenectomy surgery
• ✅ Pre- and post-op care
• ✅ Hospitalization, labs, and follow-ups
• ✅ Supplements and holistic support to aid her recovery

Every single dollar brings us closer to more beach walks, tail wags, warm cuddles, and sunsets shared side by side.

Who Nahla Is

Nahla is not just surviving — she fights with grace. Her spirit remains gentle, wise, and incredibly strong. She still enjoys walks in the sun, resting her head on my chest, and simply being near those she loves.

She has touched the hearts of everyone who meets her. I believe she still has more life to live, more love to give, and more healing to inspire.
