My name is Nabil (they/them); I am a new york-based queer, trans, muslim, 1.5 gen bangladeshi artist and designer committed to activating liberatory principles through new media and social practice. I am raising funds to support my healing after gender-affirming surgery.
Like many, the past two years have been a whirlwind. First, in 2020, I moved from Chicago to New York in 3 days to provide end-of-life care weeks before the lockdown started. Then, I lost my job, father, uncle, and grandfather. Since then, my time has been marked by familial, financial, and housing instability while navigating our current pandemics.
It finally feels like I am thawing out of grief. Amidst all the changes brought on by the last few years, I started HRT. After a two-year waitlist, I will finally get top surgery on March 6. Unfortunately, during this period, I will be unable to work until I am physically & mentally recovered.
All funds raised would cover three months’ worth of rent, pre+post op medical, living & debt expenses. As a freelancer currently out of work, you would be supporting not only myself but also an ecosystem of other QT+BIPOC folks with whom I’m collaborating to build new worlds. This work is essential!
I can finally feel the edges of possibility, and I need your support to help me get over this edge. I’m excited to recover and return to my work that supports my communities this year.
