My sister Amanda has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. This came on suddenly and has utterly shocked our family to the core. Being 38 and receiving this news was a devastating blow but being the strong woman she is, she has handled it with so much grace and sensibility that amazes me every day.
Later this month she'll be undergoing a double mastectomy and a long recovery. Due to the intensity of the surgery, Amanda will be unable to work for at least six weeks while she recovers, and as a hairstylist, time away from work means no income. She has been so strong and positive, even in the face of a difficult diagnosis, but the stress of not being able to pay her rent, utilities, groceries, care for her 4 Pomeranians (Ricky Bobby, Rob Burgundy, Little Bear and Mrs. Puffs) and medical expenses is weighing heavily on her. In addition, Mandy will also need to undergo another surgery early next year, which will mean another 4-plus weeks of recovery, more time away from work and additional financial strain.
These donations will help Amanda cover her daily living costs and basic food needs, as well as any extra medical expenses that arise throughout her journey. Removing the stress of her day-to-day expenses will help her focus on healing and give her the peace of mind she needs. This isn't anything we thought we'd ever be doing and if you've made it this far then thank you for listening to my rant. If you are able to help in any way possible it will be so graciously appreciated. Mandy is a force. She will get through this. But the additional support from her family, friends and her beloved Pom's will go a long way.
Another way to support her is through a meal train her great friends have set up. Follow the link below:
