Myron Curtis moved into our brand new apartment complex shortly after my family did, just as we were about to start fourth grade. We became fast friends, and soon after, teammates, sharing a love for basketball. From the age of 12 through high school, we played on teams together, building memories that lasted a lifetime. Even after college, despite living 1200+ miles apart, we stayed in touch. Myron was always the first person I’d see when I came back east. Losing him stings deeply for me.
On February 11th, Myron passed away after a long and courageous journey. He faced incredible challenges, including the amputation of both legs, but his spirit never wavered. I remember visiting him after his second amputation, worried about how I’d feel seeing him without legs. Myron, who could once “jump out of the gym,” greeted me with an upbeat demeanor and a smile that made it impossible to feel sorry for him. His resilience inspired everyone who knew him.
Now, I’m reaching out to Myron’s friends and anyone touched by his story to help his sister, Linda, with funeral costs. Myron had no insurance, and the financial burden has fallen on her. I will be the lead person for this fundraiser and will cover any costs associated with GoFundMe. If we all give what we can, we can ease Linda’s burden and honor Myron’s memory. Please join me in supporting Linda during this difficult time.
