Hello! My name is Savanna Smith, and I am organizing this GoFundMe for my mammaw, Myra Angell.
Myra has had a very difficult few years. Just when life seemed to settle, her health took an unexpected turn. Four years ago, on December 8, her husband—my pappaw—passed away from COVID along with other health issues. Shortly after his passing, Myra was forced to leave the home they built together and move into an older house her parents once lived in.
We made several small repairs to get the house ready for her to move in. However, what initially appeared to be a “small” roof leak turned out to be a much larger issue. A significant hole in the roof led to major water damage in the kitchen, affecting the roof, ceiling, walls, and the floors. Due to ongoing financial and health challenges, Myra has not been able to repair the roof.
Mammaw began experiencing discomfort in her neck. We encouraged her to see her doctor to determine the cause. In September 2025, she received devastating news: She was diagnosed with stage 4 Large B-cell lymphoma—an aggressive, fast-growing cancer that attacks the white blood cells. It has caused multiple tumors and lesions throughout her lymph nodes.
Over the past two months, Myra, her family, and her medical team have worked together to create a treatment plan that includes six rounds of chemotherapy using one of the strongest forms available, commonly referred to as “the Red Devil.” At this time, radiation is not an option, though it may be added later. This past Friday, Myra had her port placed, and the procedure went very well. She remains in great spirits and is surrounded by a strong, loving support team as she prepares for the long fight ahead.
This GoFundMe was created to provide financial relief and to remind Mammaw that her community stands firmly behind her. Donations will help cover expenses such as hotel stays, transportation, groceries, and much-needed repairs to the roof of her home, allowing her to focus on healing rather than financial stress.
Unfortunately she has to step away from working at the family-owned store to protect herself while her immune system can’t fight off the common winter bugs.
Thank you so much for your support. Even a simple share means more than words can express. I will continue to keep this page updated as we move forward. Please keep Myra in your thoughts and prayers.
