Our friend and colleague Myra Caluag was just recently diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
Myra has been working in Credit Valley Hospital for almost 10 years, first in Housekeeping and for the last couple years as a Clinic Clerk in Renal/Dialysis Department.
She is a single mother with no other family in Canada, she's been supporting her son and her family back in the Philippines.
Myra's journey to recovery will most likely take many months. She is going into surgery in the beginning of February, and will start her radiation and chemotherapy treatments soon after. She will not be able to work during this time, so while she is fighting for her health, we at Renal would like to make sure she doesn't have to worry about her bills.
Here's a letter from one of Dialysis nurses that expresses thoughts and feelings of many of us:
Yesterday I was shocked when I heard our lovely UCA Myra was just diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer, and is going to start a journey to fight the cancer. Myra is a nice lady and she always offers help whenever we need. She is a part-time clerk in our unit, and has no benefits and relatives in Canada. She is a single mother with a 20-year-old son in first year of university. She is a brave mother using her tiny shoulder to support her little family!
Our unit is preparing a card and a donation for Myra. Usually we donate a small amount of money for our colleagues to show our care for anything that happened to them. I really appreciate our renal family for its love, care, and support! When I think of Myra I believe this time we need to give her a strong lift to support her little family! I really encourage you to be with us. Hongyan, Wei, Ting, Jiping, Alice and more staff to work one day or half day or even several hours for Myra to support her and family! We plan to raise $20 ,000 or more for Myra so she may have a period of peaceful time for recovery!
Disease may flip a little family but it can not shake a loving renal family!
If you are touched and would like to support, please, join us in our efforts! All the money we collect will be used to support Myra. Thank you very much!
Best Regards,
Ruiting
