- On January 9th, Myles had his third ever open heart surgery. The goal was to replace his pulmonary valve and add a conduit for future replacements. His initial surgery was successful, he started to have complications during recovery. Shortly after, he got pneumonia, they decided to sedate him for a few days. While they were putting him under, he had a rare turn of events and had to be given CPR and chest compressions. They then decided to put him on life support. On Jan. 11, his team decided that he needed another surgery once they found out his conduit was putting too much pressure on his coronary artery. They left his chest open for a few days to drain the fluid and he got a lot blood transfusions. The next few days he spent sedated so he wasn’t in pain and was comfortable,, when he was awake he was nodding and shaking his head which was a great sign. On Jan, 26, we got the okay to get his ECMO machine removed. He got it removed in the afternoon and that went well. Today, Jan. 27, we found out that within the last 24 hours Myles had a stroke and lost the movement in the left side of his body. In these last two months, Myles has since made a great recovery, organ function came back slowly but surely and he's moving his left side independently and even walking during PT. Yay!
- As of March 23rd, we found out Myles will be needing a transplant and has been put on the heart transplant list. He will be staying on the Impella device until we find him a new heart which means he will stay in the hospital until then. We have a whole different and long journey ahead of us. Prayers are appreciated. Thank you for everyone whose shown us support and compassion during these difficult times.
