To know Mychellya is to love her — and she needs our support as she prepares for a second round of extensive surgeries in her battle against a rare form of cancer located in her right eye.

Mychellya was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery in April 2024. The surgery proved unsuccessful and the tumor has continued to grow. After consulting with her medical team at MD Anderson, a second and much more extensive surgery has been scheduled for August 28, 2025.

In December of 2023, a visit to the optometrist led to the discovery of a suspicious mass on Mychellya’s eye. Her optometrist recommended she immediately visit a specialist. A visit to MD Anderson in Houston on January 17, 2024, led to Mychellya being diagnosed with Uveal Melanoma (cancer located in the center of her right eye). A follow up appointment took place on March 20, 2024, and scans revealed the mass had tripled in size since January. It was during this appointment that specialists at MD Anderson told Mychellya that she would need to undergo surgery and radiation. The surgery and radiation treatment proved unsuccessful and Doctors have informed Mychellya she will have to undergo a much more aggressive surgery. Little is known about this specific cancer and Mychellya will be one of the first in the nation to undergo a second round of this specific type of surgery.

Mychellya will have to spend up to two weeks in Houston while undergoing two surgeries. Following her time in Houston, she will return to Abilene. However, upon returning home she will be unable to work for a minimum of six weeks.

Friends are invited to walk alongside Mychellya through this journey. Funds raised will go towards medical expenses, loss of income, and travel between Abilene and Houston.
