Support Myanmar Artists: Responding Socio-Ecological Issues

Donation protected
Support Myanmar Artists: Responding Socio-Ecological Issues campaign seeks to support an innovative art education program, Experimental Learning of Art in Social Action, a collaborative venture between the Association for Myanmar Contemporary Arts (AMCA) and a partner from Thailand.

The program is designed to foster a deeper understanding of art's role in addressing contemporary social and environmental issues while nurturing artistic experimentation and cross-cultural exchange. In addition to this, it is also designed to envision social engagement with arts to address important social issues like environmental, alternative education, and community participation.

Southeast Asia, a region particularly vulnerable to climate change, has been facing challenges such as rising sea levels, heat waves, floods, and droughts. The region is also experiencing a significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions, which contributes to the ongoing climate crisis. The recent Typhoon Yagi floods in Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for environmental awareness and community participation in disaster prevention.

Hence, this program also aims to raise environmental awareness and empower community participation. This program hopes to achieve these goals by educating artists and communities about the impact of climate change and encouraging active engagement in addressing social-ecological challenges through art-based initiatives. From this program, participating artists and professionals will get a chance to share their socio-ecological issues then exchange ideas to overcome such challenges together.

We hope to implement this art education program in November, 2024. Your generous support will enable us to provide essential resources for young and emerging artists from Myanmar. The funds raised through this campaign will be utilized to:
  • Cover living expenses and material costs for participating artists
  • Facilitate learning opportunities with experienced educators, artists, and curators
  • Showcase an exhibition with the work of the participating artists

Together, we can create a lasting impact on the lives of Myanmar's young artists and help them transform their creativity into a force for positive change. With your support, we can achieve in harnessing the power of art to create a more sustainable and equitable future for our neighbouring regions.
