Help Sweet Mya Garcia Fight for Her Heart

Our family is walking through the most difficult days we have ever known. Since Christmas Eve, our precious granddaughter, Mya Garcia, has been fighting for her life. She has been transferred between three different hospitals and has been in the Cardiac ICU at Stanford since Christmas morning.

Mya has been diagnosed with left ventricular cardiomyopathy — a rare and devastating heart condition. There is no cure. Her heart is weak and struggles to pump the blood her little body needs. Despite everything, Mya continues to fight with courage that inspires everyone who meets her.

Mya also lives with severe cerebral palsy. She has been confined to a wheelchair her entire life and is unable to speak or feed herself, making her completely dependent on others for her care. Even with these challenges, Mya is a bright, loving soul who brings joy to everyone around her.

When Mya is finally able to come home, her journey will not be over. She will require 24/7 continuous heart medication through an IV infusion, along with several other medications and supplemental oxygen just to keep her stable. Her home will need to be turned into a mini-hospital, including a hospital bed and specialized medical equipment so she can receive the care she needs to survive.

Her parents, Breanna (Laguna) and Carlos, have not left her side. For more than 25 days, they have lived at the hospital — sleeping when they can, showering at the Ronald McDonald House next door, and surviving on cafeteria food so they can stay close to their baby girl. Carlos has had to be off work during this time, and medical bills continue to grow every day.

No parent should have to worry about finances while their child fights for their life — but that is the reality Breanna and Carlos now face.

We are asking for help, with humble hearts. Every donation — no matter the size — will go toward Mya’s medical care, home health needs, medications, medical equipment, hospital bills, and basic living expenses while her parents remain by her side.
