Help Support My Wife’s Battle with Rare Medical Conditions

Hi everyone,
Three weeks ago, our family experienced one of the scariest moments of our lives. On Monday, September 22nd, my wife began feeling really sharp abdominal pains. At first, she hoped it would pass, but by the end of the day, she could barely walk. We had to call 911, and she was rushed to our local hospital.
After arriving and being assessed, the doctor ran tests and found that her blood sugar was so dangerously high, the machines couldn’t even register it — they max out at 30, and her levels were over 60. The situation was critical, and she was immediately transferred by emergency transport to Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton.
She spent several days in the ICU, undergoing intense monitoring and tests. Eventually, she was moved to the surgical floor in case emergency surgery was needed. Every day brought more tests, more injections, and more uncertainty.
Doctors discovered that her pancreas is split in two — something extremely rare — and that her kidneys, spleen, thyroid and hemoglobin are also affected. Her body began retaining water, causing her stomach, legs, and feet to swell significantly. She was receiving insulin injections around the clock. All of her fingers on both of her hands became raw from all of the blood sugar testing, and she had multiple IV lines at once to help stabilize her.
Despite weeks of testing, specialists from three different hospitals still don’t know what type of diabetes she has. Her case is so rare and complicated, and we’re still waiting for more answers.
After nearly 3 weeks in the hospital, she was finally discharged. While we are so grateful to have her home, this is just the beginning of a long road ahead. The Doctors have ordered bed rest as they say the injuries will take months to heal unfortunately. She now requires:
• Frequent specialist appointments over an hour + away
• Ongoing insulin and expensive prescriptions that aren't covered
• A specialized walker to help her get around
• Ongoing lab work, testing, and follow-up care
The financial strain has already taken its toll — hospital parking alone added up quickly, and we are now facing transportation, medical, and accessibility expenses that we simply weren’t prepared for.
I’ve been by her side every day, doing everything I can to support her and keep life stable for our children. But we can’t do this alone.
If you’re able to help — whether by donating, sharing, or simply keeping our family in your prayers — we are deeply, deeply grateful. Every little bit helps and means the world to us.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting us through this incredibly difficult time.
With love,
Gabriel
