Hi everyone, I’m reaching out because I’m facing one of the biggest and most difficult moments of my life. I have an upcoming major back surgery, and to be honest, I am scared and emotionally drained. This will be an extensive procedure lasting about 9½ hours, possibly longer. The surgeons will be removing all of the hardware from my previous 7 back surgeries and performing a full reconstruction of my spine—from T10 down to my pelvis. This includes a pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) at L4 and a revision laminectomy from L2 to L5. This surgery is considered high-risk and very complex. I will require blood transfusions during the procedure and will be in the ICU for at least 24–48 hours afterward. If everything goes well, I’ll remain in the hospital for about a week. After that, doctors will decide whether I need to stay in a rehabilitation facility for 6–8 weeks or attempt recovery at home.

I’ve been an emotional mess trying to process all of this. I’m scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to expect—but I know this surgery is necessary to improve my quality of life and give me a chance at less pain and more mobility. As many of you know, I am currently on disability and already struggling to cover basic living expenses. While I have Medicare, I am still responsible for 20% of the total medical costs, which is more than I can manage on my own.

I am asking for help to cover my portion of the surgery and medical bills, post-surgery recovery and rehabilitation expenses, and travel costs, gas, and hotel stays for my sister so she can be nearby while I’m in the ICU (visitation is limited, and she cannot stay with me during that time).
