For most of my life, I’ve explored philosophies and practices cultivating self-awareness and compassion. But how does one translate them into practical action; the way my heart handles the heartbreaking, the tragic, the frustrating, the complex real life moments along the path?
How do I find compassion in its clear unclouded form and use it skillfully in the face of chaos.
To challenge and cultivate this skill I've enrolled in New York Zen Center’s Foundations in ContemplativeCare course. Some help funding the tuition cost would be greatly appreciated. I hope to dedicate significant time to the study and practice, the volunteer component at Mount Sinai West and MJHS Hospice, and to sharing my experiences and insights on Patreon.
A little about the program:
"Together we learn to meet fear and discomfort with courageous compassion. Foundations in Contemplative Care is a transformational 9-month training for integrating spiritual practice with care. Since 2007, the program has supported people from around the world in bringing a contemplative approach to care into their intrapersonal, interpersonal and professional lives."
Living in this world, in all its beauty and horror, I take it as a duty to learn courageous compassion and bring that to my interpersonal relationships, to my community, to friends and family experiencing suffering, to myself.
This course may lay the groundwork for a new career path. That is to be seen.
Training in courageous compassion will surely enrich my spiritual practice and personal relationships, inform my art making, and strengthen my ability to open space for others and just do better.
