Support My Thesis Film 'Su Auto'

Hey everyone! My name is Alexander Pardo and I’m a film student currently attending Brooklyn College. I’m currently raising money for my senior thesis project 'Su Auto' (translated to 'Your Car'), which will be going into production this fall with an incredibly talented crew behind me. The film is centered around a Hispanic family dealing with the loss of the father, who left behind a project car that he used to work on with his son. We follow Gabriel, the son, who is not only left grieving, but also struggling to live up to the image of his father as he works to finish the car his dad left behind. However, through his own grieving, he struggles to remain connected to the other two most important things he still has left of his father: his mother and sister.

It’s a story that’s deeply personal to me and more specifically, a very dear friend of mine. It explores the difficulty of losing a father and the importance of adapting to such a change within an immigrant family. Living within an immigrant household myself, I wanted to explore themes that I have a deep connection to, such as class struggle, loss, identity, and love. I wrote this story to not only represent the endurance of family, but also for the many mothers and fathers of immigrant households who silently fight every day to give their children an opportunity for a better life.

¡Hola a todos! Me llamo Alexander Pardo y soy estudiante de cinematografía en Brooklyn College. Estoy recaudando fondos para mi proyecto de tesis, "Su Auto", que comenzará a producirse este otoño con un equipo increíblemente talentoso. La película se centra en una familia hispana que lidia con la pérdida de su padre, quien estaba tratando de reparar un automovil en el cual trabajaba en conjunto con su hijo. Seguimos a Gabriel, el hijo, quien no solo está de luto, sino que también lucha por estar a la altura de su padre mientras trabaja para terminar el auto que dejó. Sin embargo, a través de su propio duelo, lucha por mantener la conexión con las otras dos cosas más importantes que aún le quedan de su padre: su madre y su hermana.

Es una historia profundamente personal para mí y más concretamente, un muy querido amigo mío. Explora la dificultad de perder a un padre y la importancia de adaptarse a un cambio tan grande en una familia inmigrante. Al vivir en una familia de inmigrantes, quise explorar temas con los que tengo una profunda conexión, como la lucha de clases, la pérdida, la identidad y el amor. Escribí esta historia no solo para representar la resistencia de la familia, sino también para las muchas madres y padres de familias inmigrantes que luchan en silencio cada día para darles a sus hijos la oportunidad de una vida mejor. Esta es mi manera de contar sus historias y también mi experiencia personal.
