Hi friends and family!
As a junior Environmental Science major, I have the opportunity to participate in a tropical biology study abroad program in Belize this summer. This immersive, for-credit course aligns directly with my major and career goals in environmental conservation and sustainability.
Through this program, I’ll earn 3 credit hours in Biology/Environmental Studies while learning firsthand about tropical ecosystems, the biotic and abiotic factors that shape them, and the environmental threats they face. Instead of learning solely in a classroom, I’ll be studying rainforests, wetlands, coral reefs, and mangrove ecosystems in the field.
Some highlights of the program include:
- Visiting the Belize Zoo and Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary
- Exploring Mayan ruins such as Xunantunich and Lubaantun
- Participating in daily guided rainforest tours at Blue Creek Rainforest Preserve, including learning from local Mayan communities about sustainable resource use
- Spending nearly a week on South Water Caye, with daily snorkeling trips along the Belize Barrier Reef to study reef structure, marine life, and mangrove communities
The total cost of the program is $5,500, which includes: housing, meals, transportation, snorkeling gear, and the flight.
This is a significant financial investment, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience that will deeply impact my studies and future career. Any donation—no matter the size—or even sharing this page would mean so much and help make this opportunity possible.
Thank you for supporting my education and my passion for protecting our planet
