UPDATE:
Thank you so much to everyone for your support! UESF and our big bargaining team has reached a tentative agreement with the district and so the strike has come to an end after four days and schools will reopen to students on Wednesday! I will be closing this GoFundMe to any further donations. Thank you to everyone who showed their support on the picket lines, on the streets, by sharing or donating to my strike fund as well as anyone who shared or donated to the UESF Strike Solidarity Fund or the SEIU Strike Fund! We couldn't have done this without you! The people united will never be divided!

We're going on strike to fight for the education our kids deserve -- this is my strike fund
If you don't know me personally, please donate to one of the following fundraisers:
My educator's union, United Educators of San Francisco, a union of over 6,500 educators, is going on strike for the first time in over 45 years to fight for the schools our students deserve starting Monday, February 9th. This strike fund is meant to keep me afloat and fighting for our students for 6 weeks, which was how long the previous strike lasted in 1979. During this strike, I will not be paid which means that I will not have the money to pay for basic necessities such as rent, food, or medical care. I currently have no savings to pull from after exhausting what savings I had moving across the country and paying for multiple unexpected medical bills for myself as well as emergency veterinary bills for my dog. Recently, my rent has also increased by $200 per month. This being said, if I am unable to pay rent next month, I will face eviction.
I have seen the students of San Francisco struggle immensely in their schools -- there are many classrooms where students rotate through multiple substitutes every year and never have a consistent classroom teacher. Schools are understaffed and underfunded and the students are the ones who ultimately suffer.
Several other educator unions are planning to strike across the state of California as a part of the California Teacher's Association "We Can't Wait" initiative, which states that we can't wait to demand the schools and funding that our students deserve. Some of these unions joining us include two of the largest educator unions in the state: United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA).
Please help me help the students of San Francisco and ultimately the students of California. This initiative is incredibly important to me and I am doing everything I can to avoid crossing the picket line to survive or risk being evicted. It isn't easy for me to ask for help and I understand many are struggling financially right now. Anything you can contribute will be immensely appreciated. If I have ever made a positive impact on you or your student, please consider donating to my personal strike fund. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser to ensure it reaches as many of those who know me as possible.
From United Educators of San Francisco:
The educators’ union, UESF, has been negotiating with the district for 10 months. We want student support so we can adequately provide the targeted programs for our students, fully staffed schools, educators and students suffer when there are educators and paras vacancies, and improved working conditions. We need increased preparation time, paraeducator collaboration time, lower class sizes and manageable caseloads for special education educators. In addition, we want contract language that protects us from the impacts of poor management decisions and provides ways to resolve the issues, like the disastrous payroll system that continues to negatively impact us. Lastly, we want a living wage so that educators can stay in San Francisco. We are also fighting for the schools our students deserve.
