My younger sister has always been a force of nature—small but mighty, and endlessly caring. She raised three children mostly on her own, put herself through nursing school, and has always opened her heart and home to others in need. Now, she is facing the toughest challenge of her life.

On November 29th, she almost lost her life and has been in and out of the ICU ever since. What we thought was a severe cold or flu turned out to be a life-changing autoimmune disease, affecting multiple organ systems. Her recovery will take at least six months, and she is unable to work during this time. The medical bills she has accumulated in just a month are more than one person can handle, and she still has to worry about her mortgage, utilities, groceries, car insurance, and gas for getting to and from appointments. Any savings she has will be quickly exhausted.

It has been so difficult to watch my feisty, no-nonsense little sister fight so hard. I honestly don't know how she has found the will to keep pushing through it all.
