I'm raising this fundraiser for my little sister, my brother-in-law, and my 3-year-old niece after they were involved in a horrific double semi vs. car accident. They were ground between two semis, and the trauma of what they survived has changed every part of daily life for them.
My sister had to undergo surgery to reattach muscles in her leg. She will be wheelchair-bound for a very long time, will not be able to walk normally or unassisted, and will be unable to work for up to a year. My brother-in-law suffered bruised arteries to the heart, multiple fractured ribs, a broken nose, and disfigured eyebrows. My 3-year-old niece had to be airlifted to the hospital.
This has affected my whole family deeply, especially because we already lost our oldest sibling, Jeffrey Thill, in a traumatic car crash. Now, after almost losing my sister, brother-in-law, and niece in such a similar way, my family is living with night terrors, lack of sleep, PTSD, and so much emotional pain. On top of that, my sister and brother-in-law have lost their independence. Right now, regular daily tasks like getting out of bed, showering, eating, making food, using the bathroom, caring for their daughter, and even enjoying time outside have become incredibly difficult. They will have to create an entirely new routine as they adjust to these injuries.
