Hi, my name is Chiara, and I never imagined I’d be writing something like this.

Over the past year, Breanna, my youngest sisters life has been turned completely upside down. What started as what seemed like a viral illness ended in a diagnosis that changed everything for her — Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), which then triggered a rare and life-threatening immune condition called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).

HLH is incredibly serious. It causes the immune system to go into overdrive and start attacking the body’s own organs and tissues. It’s rare, dangerous, and requires aggressive treatment and close monitoring — often similar to cancer therapy in intensity.

To be honest, it’s been terrifying for her.

There have been hospital stays(3 weeks total. 1 week in Wilksbarre and 2 weeks at the university of Penn in Philly, she was air lifted there), biopsies, constant bloodwork, and the kind of fatigue and pain she didn’t know was possible. Breanna, my family, and I had to put everything on pause — work, daily life, and her future plans — just to fight to get through each day.

And now, we’re at a point where she needs help.

Between medical bills, treatment costs, medications, travel to specialists, and lost income, the financial burden has become more than she can manage alone. She has tried to stay strong, but the reality is: She can’t do this without support.
