I have worked at my job for the past 20 years, always taking pride in being able to support myself and manage my responsibilities. Last month, I underwent two back surgeries just days apart. Before the surgeries, I was able to walk, work, and drive, though I struggled with pain in my right leg and foot, and drop foot in my left. Unfortunately, after the surgeries, I lost the ability to walk and drive. Both of my legs are now numb and weak, and I am dealing with complete drop foot. I spent nine days in the hospital, followed by a week in inpatient rehabilitation. Now, I am home, receiving in-home rehabilitation twice a week and visits from a nurse once a week. My doctors are hopeful that I will regain feeling in my legs and eventually be able to walk and drive again, but they have told me this could take months.

This situation has been incredibly challenging, not just physically and emotionally, but financially as well. My employer does not offer disability pay, so I currently have no income. As a single person, I am solely responsible for all my household expenses. I have applied for state assistance and am waiting for a response, but in the meantime, I am extremely worried about bills piling up. The funds raised will go directly toward utilities, groceries, medical bills, and day-to-day living expenses while I focus on my recovery.
