Support and Hope after Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
My name is Megan and I'm raising funds for my parents who were hit hard by Hurricane Helene in Florida. Their home took on severe flood and wind damage in the Category 4 storm, which is the strongest storm on record to hit their area. The devastation is vast throughout the area and my parents, despite being insured, will incur huge costs and need a lot of emotional strength to recover what they've lost.
My parents have worked hard for years to build a life for myself and my sister after immigrating to the US from the UK in 1977. They're in their retirement and are the primary caregivers for my elderly grandparents who live with them and are also affected by this storm. We're all pulling together as a family to "keep calm and carry on," but in times like this, community and support from others—even if just by spreading the word—is invaluable.
So, in March 2024, I started training to run my first marathon. After some injuries and challenges along the way, I am proud and determined to be running the 2024 Amsterdam Marathon on Oct 20. I will use my run, and the hours of training I've spent, dedicated to my parents who gave me every benefit and boost in life that got me here.
I will be running to help them rebuild and keep smiling. It would mean the world to me if you would consider donating to support them.
GoFundMe says that suggested donations tend to be more successful, so I will suggest $26 ($1 per marathon mile). However, any amount would be very graciously and warmly appreciated. They will use the funds towards replacing appliances (washing machine, dryer, and refrigerator) and cleaning up the substantial mess.
Thank you all.
