Hi everyone, my name is Tiera and I am currently a nursing student at North Island College in my second year. I have been given the incredible opportunity to participate in an upper-level nursing field school in the remote Indigenous community of Rivers Inlet.
This experience focuses on Indigenous ways of knowing, relational accountability, ecological reciprocity, cultural safety, and learning directly through community connection and land-based experiences. As a future nurse, I believe it is extremely important to continue growing my understanding of Indigenous health, reconciliation, and culturally safe care. This opportunity will allow me to learn in a way that goes far beyond the classroom and help shape the kind of compassionate, knowledgeable, and respectful nurse I hope to become.
Coming from a healthcare background and now continuing my education in nursing, I am deeply passionate about caring for others and building meaningful relationships with the people and communities I work with. Being able to participate in this field school is something that means so much to me both personally and professionally.
I am currently fundraising to help cover the costs associated with the trip, including transportation, accommodations, food, course-related expenses, and supplies needed for the field school experience as students loans and grants will not cover the cost. Any support, whether through donations or sharing this fundraiser, would truly mean a lot to me and help make this opportunity possible.
Thank you so much for supporting my journey and helping me continue my education and growth as a future nurse.
