Hi there, I'm Buddy Todd and taking a big leap of faith.

I'm heading to Ireland to study Theatre and Performative Practices.

I've been accepted into a Master's program at University College, Cork. I will be exploring the idea of theatre as activism, specifically as a means to use joy, pleasure, and laughter as tools for activism for communities that have been harmed by oppression and silence. For 12 months, I will be developing my artistic voice through this work. When I complete this, I will be returning to Seattle to contribute these skills to the theatre and arts community here.

I have been awarded a small scholarship and I've applied to another, which will be really helpful. However, I want this to happen whether or not this extra funding comes through.

In my practices of advocacy, I have frequently coached and encouraged my students and collaborators to build a community and then to allow your community to support you. Yet, when it comes to my own needs and desires, I've been loath to do exactly that. In fact, I rarely have "asked for favors" because I've been so indoctrinated into the "bootstraps" mentality when it comes to my self, while encouraging others to reach out for help.

So, here's the deal: I'm reaching out to my community for help. This will be an exciting adventure but one that will consume quite a bit of resources. I've never invited others to help me in this way before. It's scary and vulnerable.

So, if you have a few bucks and would like to be a part of this, please feel free to contribute what is meaningful for you.

$26 to $50 - I will send you, and post, a short thank you video on my social media, including a "dad joke" just for you

$51 to $100 - I will send you a handwritten "thank you" card (I'll just need to know where to send it) before I leave

$101 and up - I will send you a handwritten "thank you" card FROM Ireland and email updates on my experiences while I'm there
