Support My Mothers Journey To Beat Stage 4 Cancer
Hello everyone,
My name is Jordan, an incoming freshman to college this year.
My mother, Kelly (47) was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer on February 14th, 2023. It was on March 14th that she learned the cancer had penetrated the muscle wall of her Bladder. On April 11th she had a CT scan and found the cancer had metastasized to her lungs. My dad JT was also on vacation at the time and was blindsided and informed by his employer that they were terminating his position (Yes, his employer knew of the cancer diagnosis). It was a complete surprise to us, and we were given no time to prepare. He is looking for work but our insurance is going to lapse even after getting a new job.
She met with her Oncologist on April 20th and a PET scan was ordered. It was May 4th, 2023 when she was officially diagnosed with stage 4 muscle invasive bladder cancer in her lungs, tailbone and several lymph nodes. The plan was to start 6 sessions of MVAC chemotherapy, Bladder removal, and lymph node removal In August/September, next Immunotherapy. We would see where she stands and tackle the lungs from there. All with the goal to shrink all tumors.
The past few years have been really hard for us. In recent years, I was diagnosed with ADHD and depression in 2020, and caught long covid after my junior prom in 2022. Despite the struggles of still being exhausted for days on end while trying to attend school, I'm set to graduate with Honors this June. I got accepted into The University of Portland of Arts and Sciences associated with the congregation of The Holy Cross and plan to major in Biochemistry/Chemistry. I aim to finish with my bachelors and apply for medical school, furthering my education and obtaining my doctorate. While it appears as good news, the tuition and books for such a feat aren’t cheap.
My mom was supposed to grow old with my dad and watch me graduate college, get married and have children of my own. She is the glue for our small family. She loves our family with all her heart
They have come a long way with cancer and we do have options but it’s expensive and she is not able to work right now due to the chemo and will have to let her body heal after bladder removal. We have a long journey ahead of us. It feels that all of our focus has been on our finances lately when it should be on trying to beat cancer.
Moreover, my mother has a phobia of sorts after her mother passed away from sepsis at the young age of 58 during her chemotherapy treatment for Internal Melanoma. Her mom missed most of the milestones that she should have been there for. She missed her wedding and she missed my birth. My mom is battling on all fronts; mentally and physically and I can only sit by and support her however I can alongside my father, but we are running out of options.
I make this plea for help and ask for any support people can possibly provide. I love my mother wholeheartedly, and just wish for her to be able to receive the treatment she deserves.
We are raising money for the long road ahead on this cancer journey that we are suddenly faced with. Some of the things we plan to use the money for:
-
Pay medical bills
-
Rent
-
Everyday expenses
-
Tuition & Books
