Support My Mother Battling Serious Illness
Donation protected
My mother was transported to UK Hospital in Lexington, KY from a local hospital that believed, after examining her and doing some tests that her condition, would best be treated at UK. Without going into her entire medical condition, it was determined that she had a complex abscess, which meant intravenous antibiotics, serious pain meds and surgery. This had started from having a severe ear infection. She had to have emergency surgery to try to prevent the infection from entering her bloodstream and bone. UK staff have been great and have been very thorough with the lab work, diagnostic testing and care for my mother. This infection is very aggressive and is not responding the way the surgeon had expected and hoped that it would, which brings on more testing and increased antibiotic pushing. I have been here with her the entire time, since Friday, November 22nd and it looks as though we may be here longer for more tests and longer treatment of this aggressive infection, with the possibility of more surgery. My mother has no insurance as she has been waiting on medicaid from having to leave her job due to her health since getting Covid several times while caring for Covid patients herself at the VA Medical Center.
As you can imagine, this is a major hardship on her, not only worrying about how things will go with her health, but her obligations as being a single parent to my two younger brothers, ages 15 and 9, who are currently with our grandparents.
I know anything given would be appreciated by my mother and me, as I am missing work to be here with her. She is my mother in a very serious condition. Where else am I going to be?
