A few nights ago, a tree fell on my mother’s rental home, forcing her to leave because the house is currently unsafe and uninhabitable.

Thankfully, she was not injured. The Red Cross has provided one week of emergency hotel lodging, and she has opened a claim with her renter’s insurance. The landlord is still assessing the damage, however, and right now we do not know whether the house can be repaired quickly enough for her to return or whether she will need to find a new place to live.

In the meantime, she is facing the unexpected costs that come with being suddenly displaced from her home.

Donations will help with expenses such as temporary housing, groceries and meals while she is in a hotel, laundry, moving and storage costs if she needs to relocate, replacement of damaged belongings, and other disaster-related expenses that are not covered or reimbursed by insurance.

Because the situation is still developing, we do not yet know exactly what insurance will cover or how long she will be displaced. Any funds raised will go toward helping her stay housed and meet these unexpected expenses while we figure out what comes next.
