If you know my mom, you know she’s the kind of person who would never ask for help. She’s always the one giving it. But this time, I’m asking on her behalf because she truly needs it.

On our third day in Italy, my mom suffered a serious fall that resulted in a fractured pelvis and two fractures in her right hip. Because of the severity of her injuries, she must remain completely lying down for at least 30 days—even for basic needs like going to the bathroom. The situation is even more difficult because we are far from home. She is currently in a private hospital in Italy, where the cost of care is about $1,000 per day. I am working urgently to arrange a medical flight back to the United States so she can receive treatment closer to home.

Unfortunately, even with her Kaiser insurance, the medical flight is not covered. This means we are facing an out-of-pocket cost of $28,000 just to get her home safely.

After she returns, she will still face a long and challenging road to recovery, including extended medical care and rehabilitation.
