In 2020, my mom had her first appointment at Duke, which led to her diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Since then, our family has faced countless appointments, including endoscopies to band esophageal varices and many changes in her medications. Every three months, she makes a four-hour trip to Duke for follow-up testing, blood work, and consultations. These trips and procedures have become a regular part of her life as she manages this challenging diagnosis.
Now, my mom is in need of a liver transplant. On top of her own health challenges, she also cares for my brother, who is handicapped. The journey ahead is daunting, not only because of the medical challenges but also due to the financial strain it brings. Donations will go directly toward her medical bills, help fund a place for her to stay while she awaits her transplant and during her recovery afterward, and support her in caring for my brother. This support will make a real difference in her ability to focus on healing and give our family some peace of mind during this difficult time.
We are very grateful for any support that is given during this extremely challenging time. Easing the burden of finances for this journey that my mom and our entire family is about to go through would mean the world to us. Thank you for considering helping our family as we navigate this next chapter.
