Please support my mom’s journey with ovarian cancer
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
I am sending out this request for help because my mom was diagnosed with stage 3A low-grade serous ovarian cancer at the beginning of February 2024. She received a hysterectomy on February 28th, 2024, and is now receiving a minimum of six rounds of chemotherapy to treat metastatic cancer in her lymph nodes.
As of early June 2024, she still has three more chemotherapy sessions left. Each round keeps getting delayed because of a doctor strike in South Korea. Her side effects are quite intense and becoming extremely difficult to manage between long intervals. It also seems like there is uncertainty as to whether new symptoms are occurring or are side effects of chemo because her cancer is slow-growing and hard to detect.
Since she had to go into surgery in a rush there was not enough time to get health insurance in Korea fully set up and is starting to impact my family. Since the timing keeps getting prolonged, finances are becoming much more complicated.
My 80-year-old grandma has been the primary caretaker since my Korean is not great (honestly - elementary level) and my uncle, who is the main source of income for this family, has now taken on the responsibility of driving my mom to all of her hospital appointments. While I am helping with household chores and moral support, I still feel helpless, but as I stand right now setting this fundraiser up seems like the best option of how I can help.
I am extremely grateful for donations in any amount. On top of helping to pay for medical bills, I plan to donate 15% of what gets raised on my mom’s behalf to ovarian cancer research.
Thank you so much for reading this story and I really hope she gets all the best thoughts and support.
