I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share that my mom’s apartment recently caught fire, and she has been displaced. This has been an incredibly tough and traumatic time for her; the oxygen tank in a neighboring apartment on her floor exploded and left the entire floor engulfed in flames and smoke.

My mom already has a heart condition; the smoke inhalation and shock of this event have left her in a very sensitive place. She is not currently in the hospital, but I've been monitoring her as closely as possible while I do not live in Chicago.

My mom has been through so much, and she’s really in need of a little extra support to get back on her feet. While she feels uncomfortable asking for help, I want to step in and let our community know how they can assist her during this challenging time.

I’ve set up a GoFundMe to help with immediate needs: since she has been displaced, her plan is to stay in an Airbnb for the next few months while she looks for long-term housing, which is averaging $2000 a month. She could also use support with personal essentials, food, and miscellaneous costs like transportation. As she continues to recover, she is hoping to get back to serving clients as a cosmetologist.
