On Monday 23, early in the morning, my mom’s store burnt down. My mom’s store was a place where community was built. A place where folks gathered and shared resources. If she didn’t have the answer she would find it for you. This community was 15 years in the making. This store has seen her three children through multiple degrees, many graduations, and ceremonies. It’s seen a bunch of laughter and also tears.
In a matter of hours, 15 years of labor, sacrifice, and community was taken from her. It was her livelihood, her independence, and her way of continuing to show up for others. It was her version of rest after a lifetime of labor. My mom has always been one to give to her community, her clients, to anyone in need of support.
With your help, our hope is that any funds gathered will assist with my mom as she transitions into what’s next.
