On May 10th, my mom suffered a violent attack with a hammer by her ex-boyfriend that left her severely injured and hospitalized in the ICU.
During the attack, my mom suffered devastating injuries to her face. Both sides of her cheek and orbital bones were broken, requiring major reconstructive surgery. Several of her bottom teeth were also knocked out. She has already endured extensive medical treatment and still faces a long road of healing ahead — physically, emotionally, and financially.
Before this happened, my mom had already been struggling financially and does not have health insurance. Now our family is trying to navigate overwhelming hospital bills, future surgeries and dental work, medications, recovery care, and the day-to-day costs of helping care for her while she heals.
It is heartbreaking to see someone you love hurt this badly and feel helpless watching them suffer. Right now, we just want to focus on helping my mom recover without the constant fear of how we are going to afford the care she desperately needs.
