My mother has always been the kind of person who puts the wellbeing of others first. A mother of 6 and a grandmother of 8, she is wonderful in both her roles in our family. As an EMT in New York City, she served her city and was one of many first responders on that tragic day on 9/11. She has also worked alongside FEMA, serving people of Florida in Hurricanes Ian, Idalia, Helen, and Milton, helping countless survivors in their time of need. Now, she is facing her own battle.

She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and doctors have also found something in her lymph node under her arm. We’re waiting for a biopsy on March 30th to learn more, but we already know that the road ahead will be tough and expensive.

Her insurance and doctors have told us that the upcoming treatments will be more than she can afford. She has a co-payment just to get started, and the costs will only grow from there. On top of that, we hope to take her to California for a promising cancer research trial, if she qualifies. That means travel, a place to stay, and living expenses while she’s away from home—all things that add up quickly.
