Hello! My name is Betania and I’ve been playing the violin since I was five years old. However, I started learning about music a year prior, due to the opportunities provided by the foundation Music Masters, an organisation with the aim of providing music lessons to children in less privileged areas. Through Music Masters, I was fortunate enough to play at many prestigious venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. After Music Masters, I gained major music scholarships to study at James’ Allen’s Girls’ School and the Royal College of Music. I also studied at the Royal College of Music’s Junior Department from 2014-2021 through financial aid in the form of a bursary. Music has been a gift that has given me many opportunities I will always cherish. Since 2015, I have been a member of the Chineke! Foundation, an organisation which exists to give performance opportunities at the highest level both within the UK and internationally to musicians of black and diverse ethnic groups. both its Junior and Senior Orchestras. With Chineke!, I have had the opportunity to play in amazing venues around Europe and North America, in events such as SoccerAid, The Brit Awards and the BBC Proms.
From the age of 5, I knew music would change my life, and in so many ways, it already has, but now I have the opportunity to take it to the next level. I am so grateful to have been accepted onto a master’s course at the world renowned Manhattan School of music, with a full tuition scholarship. However, this won’t be enough to cover the cost to live in New York for two years. As a music student, I won’t have the ability to work alongside my study, so I’d like to make an appeal to all of you reading this.
Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to have achieved what I have done, but I’m not ready to stop now, and with your help, I won’t have to. If you can find it in your heart to give, you’d be changing my life, and making the wildest dreams of 5 year old me come true.
