Hi, I`m Beth - a 19 year-old Cross-country mountain bike racer, and this season has been the biggest of my career so far.
I`ve been racing for 7 years now, starting out on the national scene and gradually working my way into international competition. It hasn`t been a straight line - like most athletes I`ve had my fair share of learnings, setbacks and slow progression before breakthroughs came. This year everything I`ve been building for finally clicked.
I became double British National Champion, winning both the XCC and XCO titles - A goal I`d been chasing since I first started racing seriously. On top of that I also found myself properly competitive at the front of World Cup fields for the first time, highlighted in a 7th place finish at the La Thuile World Cup, my best World Cup result to date. Going into this season this kind of result felt a long way off - so to actually achieve this has been a huge confidence boost and has sparked a new kind of belief in myself of what I can do at this level.
Now I have the chance to end my season exactly where I want: at the final two World Cups of the year, in Soldier Hollow, Utah and Lake Placid, New York. It will be my first time competing outside of Europe against the best in the world, on a completly different continent - a huge step in my career.
Racing in the US isn`t just about finishing the season strong, it is a chance to test myself for the last times this season and take all the experiences straight to the next. Every World Cup race gives me a clearer picture of what I need to improve and what`s possible for me and I want to go into next year with the belief that I can consistently fight for results at this level.
This is a huge opportunity for me - but comes at a huge cost. As an athlete funding my own way through sport, international racing brings expenses that are hard to cover alone: Flights, Accommodation, Race entries and car hire, on top of everything else that comes with competing at this level.
That`s why i`m asking for your help. Every contribution, big or small, goes directly towards getting me on the start line in the US and finishing this incredible season the way it deserves - which sets the foundation for even bigger goals next year.
Thank you for reading and thank you for considering supporting my journey. It means more than I can say
