UPDATE: As of the 6th April, I have reached my initial goal! Any donations here will now go straight to The Firefighter’s Charity.
Thank you!
In 2001, 343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice in trying to help others escape the World Trade Centre twin towers. In September, I will be part of a team of 343 operational firefighters from all over the UK who are taking part in a memorial stair climb. We'll be climbing 110 floors in full fire kit alongside US firefighters as a tribute to those who gave their life on 9/11. This page is a place to donate to help support my journey by covering personal costs, such as flights, accommodation and event participation fees, so that I can take part and represent UK Firefighters for a great cause.
The total cost of the trip exceeds £1,300, and I am only looking for this page to cover some of this total. To be clear, this is not the page to donate to the trip's chosen charities. Links to these can be found on the Memorial Stair Climb website, as well as more information about the trip:
Any donation over my goal will do directly to the Firefighter’s Charity. The two charities that our event is raising money for are The Firefighters Charity (UK), and The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund (US).
Additionally, as part of Dockhead Fire Station's open day on the 18th April, I will be climbing our drill tower 110 times in full fire kit to help raise awareness of the trip. One full climb for each floor of the WTC.
Firefighting is often described as a brotherhood, sisterhood & family, and I've felt this first hand when visiting fire stations in other countries. I feel extremely proud to have been chosen as one of the 343 firefighters to represent the UK at this event, and I have been training regularly at my own station. I have climbed our drill tower hundreds of times in full fire kit, sometimes with a BA kit on and under air, sometimes dragging a 55kg dummy, and sometimes carrying operational kit from the fire engine. I am fully dedicated to this endevour, and want to give this event my all. In a world full of division, I look forward to working with others for a united cause.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any donation no matter the size would be hugely appreciated.
Tom
