I am raising money for a new wheelchair to help improve my independence. For those who don’t know, I’ve made a big leap in independence this past year by going to college. While this has been incredibly exciting, it has also come with challenges, especially navigating daily life without my parents and long-term caregivers.

The BaileyBuilt wheelchair has many features that would make my life significantly more accessible. It is a lightweight, foldable motorized wheelchair, which would allow me to access places with steps and move independently on surfaces like sand at the beach without needing my friends to carry me.

Another huge benefit is transportation. With the BaileyBuilt, I would be able to transfer into a regular vehicle seat and fold my chair into the back. This is especially important because my accessible van has broken down multiple times, leaving me without reliable transportation.

Traveling would also be much easier. My current wheelchair weighs over 400 pounds and must be stored under the plane, which means I have to sit in a non-fitted chair for at least 30 minutes while waiting for my chair after landing. With the BaileyBuilt, my wheelchair could stay with me above my seat, making travel safer, smoother, and far more comfortable.
