Help Me Live a Life Free from Seizures
When I was 15 years old and a freshman in high school, I became seriously ill with E. coli poisoning after eating at a local restaurant. I was hospitalized, and within days i developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) which caused my kidneys to start shutting down and eventual kidney failure. I was transferred to Children’s Hospital, where I was placed on 24-hour dialysis.
Just when we thought I was improving, I suffered a massive seizure that put me into a coma for 26 days. Doctors ran tests and found zero brain activity on my EEG, along with severe brain injuries that most people don’t recover from. They prepared my family for the worst. But God had other plans.
Against all odds, I slowly began to wake up. When I did, my life had changed forever. I had lost all memory of my childhood, I was blind, had full-blown diabetes, kidney failure, and liver failure. Yet, day by day, I kept fighting.
After months in the hospital, I was finally cleared to go home—but the very next morning, I suffered more seizures and had to be rushed back. This cycle continued for years. Despite trying countless medications, my seizures have never fully stopped.
Now, after years of struggling, my doctors and I have decided that brain surgery is my best chance at a better life. The goal is to either stop the seizures completely or at least reduce them, so I can live with more freedom—without constant hospital visits or the fear of an episode. More than anything, I hope this surgery will give me the chance to one day have children and raise a family without the fear of seizures controlling my life.
Unfortunately, even with insurance, this surgery will be very expensive. My family has already been through so much, and I don’t want financial hardship to stand in the way of my chance for a better future. That’s why I’m asking for support through this fundraiser.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings me closer to a life with fewer limitations. If you can’t donate, sharing my story means just as much. I will be posting updates here as I get closer to the surgery and throughout my recovery so you can follow along on this journey with me.
