Support My Journey to Become an Indian law Attorney
Spende geschützt
Hi, everyone. I graduated from law school in 2023 with a certificate in Indian law, and then moved to Gallup, New Mexico, to work for the Navajo Nation tribe. I decided I wanted to practice Indian law after working with tribes as a tribal liaison at the state and federal levels. While doing this work, I saw the struggles tribal members have to preserve their culture, get basic necessities such as water and electricity, and protect tribal sovereignty. So, I started my journey through law school.
I currently work for a Navajo Nation non-profit enterprise that brings water, electricity, natural gas, and solar to homes throughout the Nation. As I write this, there are 10,407 tribal members on the Nation who do not have electricity, and my enterprise is working to lower that number through initiatives while charging tribal members fair rates. I am currently a law clerk, but I would like to continue here as a lawyer.
The problem? I cannot pass the bar exam to become licensed attorney. I have taken the bar exam four times since July of 2023, and have never achieved the minimum score needed to pass and practice in New Mexico. This is largely due to financial struggles, an ADHD diagnosis, a brief period of unemployment, and paying over $11,500 in bar exam fees. I have grown increasingly frustrated with my scores, so I decided to work with a tutor this time.
Long story short, I don't usually start GoFundMe's because I don't like asking others for help, especially in this economy, but a friend encouraged me to do so to help with tutoring, bar registration fees, etc. So, I am asking for help to ace this bar exam and do what I love in an attorney capacity.
If you want to donate, that would be amazing, and I thank you in advance. If not, your mental support and thoughts as I work to pass this exam would also be amazing.
Thank you!
