Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am a 43-year-old man from Kentucky. In January of 2025, I was let go from my job due to the business closing. I utilized the available 16 weeks of unemployment while doing job searches. This layoff was unexpected, and during a time when savings were nearly depleted. I was able to keep myself afloat for a few months with UI, but eventually lost my apartment and had to make a decision to go to the streets. I have been homeless since May of 2025.
Recently, I was able to enter into a local shelter and join their job training program. They were able to get me back to work, and thus far I have been able to make enough money to cover my day-to-day expenses and put some savings back. I have roughly $600 in savings, and the shelter I worked with was able to find me a studio apartment that rents for $650 monthly with a deposit. I am hoping to raise $700 to cover my deposit, and with what I have saved, I can cover my first month's rent. With your help, I will be able to go back to being housed and continue working to lift myself up into a better position! Thank you for taking the time to read.
