I am going to Tanzania to serve as a Doula with Wombs of the World:
This is a Cultural Immersion in Birthwork and birth beyond borders.
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Maggie, and I am a Doula, Childbirth Educator and Prenatal Yoga Teacher; dedicated to preserving traditional birthing practices and offering culturally centered care to the communities I serve.
I have been given an incredible opportunity to attend an eleven-day immersion in Karatu, where I’ll serve alongside Tanzanian nurse midwives in local clinics and connect deeply with the mothers and families they support. This is a journey rooted in humility, cultural exchange, and hands-on experience, designed for doulas, midwives, nurses, and birthworkers who want to grow not just their skills, but their understanding of birth across borders.
Why This Program Matters
Modern birthwork is often disconnected from the rich cultural traditions that have supported birthing people for generations. For Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, this disconnection can be deeply harmful; contributing to medical racism, trauma, and loss of ancestral knowledge.
These immersions will allow me to:
-To make a tangible impact on maternal healthcare in Tanzania
- Improve maternal and newborn health outcomes through mentorship, collaboration, and sustainable solutions.
-To foster long-term partnerships with local clinics, emphasizing knowledge exchange, hands-on support, and cultural understanding.
-Witness birthwork in its rawest, most reverent form
-Participate in hands-on clinical experiences that center intuitive, community-based care
-Deepen my understanding of culturally competent and trauma-informed care
-Bring back tools, wisdom, and knowledge
How Your Support Helps
The total cost of each life-changing program/immersion, including tuition, travel, and accommodations, is €5,000.
Your donation will help immensely.
Every single contribution—no matter how small—brings me one step closer to this journey. Every euro/dollar goes directly to supporting a mission that centers cultural dignity, healing, and equity in birthwork.
When I return, I plan to share what I’ve learned through Community, Workshops, Trainings/Retreats and Gatherings that honor Traditional Birth Ritual and Sovereignty.
How You Can Support
Donate – Every donation gets me closer to my goal.
Thank You!!! Thank you for believing in birthwork as sacred work. Thank you for investing in healing, in cultural preservation, and in community care. Your support means the world to me, and I carry it with gratitude into every space I serve.
With love and deep respect,
Maggie Walker - The Mindful Mama
