Support My Journey to Wombs of the World:
A Cultural Immersion in Birthwork

Dear friends, family, and supporters of sacred birthwork,

My name is Maggie, and I am a Doula, Childbirth Educator and Prenatal Yoga Teacher; dedicated to preserving traditional birthing practices and offering culturally centered care to the communities I serve.

I have been given an incredible opportunity to attend an eleven-day immersion in Karatu, where I’ll serve alongside Tanzanian nurse midwives in local clinics and connect deeply with the mothers and families they support. This is a journey rooted in humility, cultural exchange, and hands-on experience, designed for doulas, midwives, nurses, and birthworkers who want to grow not just their skills, but their understanding of birth across borders.

In addition to this immersion; I will then join the Wombs of the World Clinical Immersion Program; a deeply transformative learning experience to make a tangible impact on maternal healthcare in Tanzania.

As a participant in the Clinical Immersion Program, I will be embedded within local, government-funded maternity clinics in Karatu, Tanzania. These clinics, though under-resourced, are staffed with dedicated healthcare providers eager to collaborate and expand their skills through my mentorship and support. I will rotate between three different clinics, gaining a well-rounded perspective on maternal healthcare challenges and solutions in the region.

Why This Program Matters
Modern birthwork is often disconnected from the rich cultural traditions that have supported birthing people for generations. For Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, this disconnection can be deeply harmful; contributing to medical racism, trauma, and loss of ancestral knowledge.

These immersions will allow me to:

-To make a tangible impact on maternal healthcare in Tanzania

- Improve maternal and newborn health outcomes through mentorship, collaboration, and sustainable solutions.

-To foster long-term partnerships with local clinics, emphasizing knowledge exchange, hands-on support, and cultural understanding.

-Witness birthwork in its rawest, most reverent form

-Participate in hands-on clinical experiences that center intuitive, community-based care

-Deepen my understanding of culturally competent and trauma-informed care

-Bring back tools, wisdom, and knowledge

How Your Support Helps
The total cost of each life-changing program/immersion, including tuition, travel, and accommodations, is €5,000.

Your donation will help immensely.
Every single contribution—no matter how small—brings me one step closer to this journey. Every euro/dollar goes directly to supporting a mission that centers cultural dignity, healing, and equity in birthwork.

"Wombs of the World: Our vision is to create a world where birthworkers are continuously inspired, equipped, and supported by a global network of peers and mentors. We envision Wombs of the World as a catalyst for transformative experiences that not only enrich the professional and personal lives of participants but also contribute to the preservation and appreciation of indigenous midwifery wisdom. By bridging the gap between birth cultures, we strive to cultivate a deeper sense of community, empathy, and cultural humility among birthworkers. Our ultimate goal is for every participant to return home with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to apply their newfound knowledge and skills to support birthing individuals with compassion, competence, and cultural sensitivity. Through our efforts, we hope to contribute to a global shift towards more respectful, informed, and supportive birth practices that honor the wisdom of all cultures."

When I return, I plan to share what I’ve learned through Community, Workshops, Trainings/Retreats and Gatherings that honor Traditional Birth Ritual and Sovereignty.
