Die deutsche Version meines Appells finden Sie hier
Hi, I am Pius, a photojournalist.
124 journalists were killed in 2024 — the deadliest year ever recorded.
Democracy works when citizens are informed, when power is questioned, and when institutions are held accountable. But when journalists are silenced, democracy becomes hollow. Citizens are left with only the stories governments want them to believe.
We need journalism more than ever. And I want to be one of those journalists who insists on asking questions.
Over the past two years, I have reported on issues that rarely see the light of day in mainstream media: trans healthcare, abortion rights, violence against minorities, the rise of the far right, the erosion of democracy, and press freedom. My work has appeared in The European Correspondent, The Wire, Scroll, and The Diplomat. You can also find more on my website and Instagram.
Now I have been accepted to study journalism at the Deutsche Welle Akademie in Bonn. The programme charges €6.000 in tuition fees and €349 in semester fees for four semesters, totalling €7,396.
The course is intensive, and even though I will work up to 20 hours per week to cover my living expenses, I cannot afford the tuition fees on my own. For transparency, here’s my estimated monthly cost breakdown.
Your support will go directly towards these tuition fees and help me continue reporting with greater depth and skill.
Thank you for believing in a young journalist and in the power of stories that need to be told.
A direct contribution to my bank account is also very welcome:
